Well, today is the day we all meet up in Vermont. Yippeeeee! I only have about a zillion things to do before we get there. Wait. No. That’s not true. I did a gazillion things yesterday. So today I only have a bazillion things to do. But I don’t even care. I am trying to keep it zen. I just said to the kids, “As far as I am concerned our vacation starts now.” And then I let them have as much powdered sugar as they wanted on their waffles. (It was quite difficult to see the waffles when they were finished “decorating” them.) Now I need to add “mop up the powdered sugar” to my list or we will surely return home to swarms of ants. Oh well. What’s a bazillion and one?
There will be things left unfinished around here. Things I was hoping to accomplish before we left. Things that I just didn’t get around to. But I am not bringing any lists with me. My vacation will be a week without to-dos, of the list sort and every other kind, I hope.
Maybe we’ll post while we’re on vacation; maybe we won’t. There is no agenda, so I just can’t say. But I know that we both need this time away from our domiciles and the time to be in one place as sisters. The time for our kids to play together and no one to have the demands of work pulling at them.
I can’t wait until tomorrow morning, when I wake up and the kids already are in their bathing suits and sitting on the beach eating their cereal. All sandy butts and pink cheeks. Morning fog and a cup of coffee by the lake to start the day. And Sarah enjoying it all with me. Because I happen to know, she feels exactly the same way. (And after her very shitty week of DMV visits, computer (break)down and surgery she needs this vacation way more than I do right now.)
So excuse me while I gather helmets, PFDs, kickboards, boat paddles, the new stroller, the bikes, the bike trailer and a PILE of sand toys.
See you soon, Sal!
Vacation day at last
