Lists

Note: Sarah is not the only one of us who makes lists.

1. I have spent the last week making lists
2. This doesn’t make last week any different from any other week, except for
3. The sheer number of lists
4. There are the lists pertaining to cupcakes

a. raw ingredients
b. ingredients tally for making 125 vanilla cupcakes
c. ingredients tally for making 125 chocolate cupcakes
d. total ingredients tally
e. specific stores I must go to in order to acquire which ingredients
f. other necessary items to purchase
g. timing of cupcake preparation
h. materials needed to bring to cupcake baking day (at momalom’s mom’s house)

5. There are lists pertaining to back to school

a. lists of paperwork to fill out for B

i. health forms
ii. assessment forms
iii. bus forms (even though our son will not be riding the bus)
iv. OTHER forms

b. lists of paperwork to fill out for S

i. health forms
ii. permission slip forms
iii. is this ALL?

c. lists of what B needs for school

i. clothes
ii. a shoebox
iii. shoes (ah, symmetry)
iv. a haircut

d. lists of what S needs for school

i. clothes (she finally GREW, and I finally have to pay for clothes for her)
ii. sneakers
iii. hiking boots
iv. rain boots (she goes to a nature nursery school; thus the outdoor footwear needs)
v. a haircut

e. lists of events (I wouldn’t need to make this list if I had a calendar that went past August. Time to make another list.)

i. potluck lunch for S
ii. orientation day for B
iii. first day of school for B
iv. PTA coffee gathering on first day of school for B
v. orientation for S
vi. first day of school for S
vii. open house day for B
viii. apple picking with friends
ix. book group
x. writing group?

6. There are lists pertaining to our ongoing house reorganization

a. what is needed in each room

i. a MATTRESS for B
ii. tons of other stuff

b. what to get rid of

i. what to throw away
ii. what to freecycle
iii. what to give to Sarah

c. what goes WHERE
d. revised list of what goes WHERE
e. additional list of what to get rid of

7. There are lists pertaining to three upcoming family birthdays

a. J’s

i. how to figure out when he will be home so we can have some sort of celebration
ii. what kind of cake to make (or, can I get away without making cake, because REALLY, I’ve done a lot of that lately)

b. E’s

i. what to get her
ii. what kind of cake to make
iii. invitation list?

c. S’s

ii. party planning

1. who to invite
2. where to have it
3. when to have it
4. what kind of food to serve

a. grocery list
b. other related needs list

5. piñata? Of what and from where?
6. what kind of cake? cupcakes?

8. There are lists pertaining to mom’s wedding, for which the cupcakes begin THIS list

a. travel arrangements
b. clothing needs (see above)
c. shoe needs for the kids (see above)
d. what I am going to wear!!!

9. There are everyday lists
10. To-do lists
11. Grocery lists
12. Lists of errands that need to be done
13. Bills that need to be paid
14. People I need to call back
15. Child care that needs to be set up
16. And there are lists pertaining to my top-secret project, which I can’t reveal here
17. AND there are lists waiting to be made. (But I feel better, having listed many of my lists, in their various forms and states of completion.)

Damn girl. Why do we do this to ourselves? Soon we will need to say “NO!” and um, it explains your last post a little too. How can you work out the big issues when there are so MANY of the little ones filling up your head. Love the lists. I am a list maker too but one of my favourite songs has this line: the Spring wind blew my list of things to do away…..how freeing it feels everytime I sing it!

I love listmaking. Gets all the details out of my head to make room for something–anything!–else.

That’s a lot of stuff. I love the outline form. Makes it easier to understand how much is needed to do behind each item. And for some reason, this cracked me up.
