The not-so-big reveal

So, the secret project? It was a book. My sweetie recently endured a significant birthday milestone. Nope. Not that one. Add 10 years. And for his birthday I decided to make him a book. I worked on it during my regular blog-designated hours, and he thought I was blogging. Until he realized how much time I was “blogging.” At which point I had to lie to him. I told him I was working on stuff for momalom’s mom’s wedding. (Thanks, Mom.) I don’t know if he believed me, but he’s not the curious type.

So, the book. I agonized over it. The text. The photos. The overall layout. (Sound familiar?)

Fast forward. It turned out great (if I do say so myself). And I think he liked it. (He’s not particularly effusive about these things.)

But the secret part of the secret project cannot yet be detailed. Number 50 in his “50 Things I Love About You” book was the announcement of a trip I’m planning for us. A surprise trip. Did I mention he’s not the curious type? He hasn’t asked where we’re going. Which is good, because I can’t keep a secret. But I want to. I want it to be a secret and then a surprise. Or two or three. And with the help of many generous friends, old and new, this trip promises to be a pretty great one. Just me and my sweetie. For two nights. Alone.

And it’s only a month until we depart. Excuse me while I go review some details. And, Sarah, start getting ready. Six kids is, um, DOUBLE three.

I love that you surreptitiously made him a book. I love that you have planned a surprise getaway. In a society and an age where so many people seem obsessed with material possessions and regal gifts, it is refreshing to read about your creative gesture and your desire to whisk your man away. Your prose reeks of romance.

Romance? Really. Must be some reserve I have deep down. Thanks for your nice comment. I really am SO EXCITED (but trying to play it cool).

It is so important to have something to look forward to. Sarah taught me this. And even though it is still so far in the future of everyday stressors, I feel calm when I think about it. So it helps! Have fun on YOUR trip!

my god, woman, where do you get the energy?

No energy. Just need a creative outlet to make me feel like I can do more than wipe butts and fold laundry. You know? :)
