Ten from Jen: Blog Posts of 2009

by Jen on January 2, 2010

We only started Momalom in March. But I liked Scary Mommy’s idea of choosing a favorite post from each month. This was more difficult than I anticipated. Not because I’m so vain to think that I have many “bests,” but because I read so many old posts and relived so many moments of introspection of the past year. A side-effect of blogging, I am finding. But it’s a good way to pause and reflect, too, which is something I’ve been trying to do. So, here are my top 10 of 2009.

March: Wine with dinner makes me philosophical (Be careful what you wish for; it all goes by so fast.)

April: My Last Baby (I got what I wished for; and I’m not going to let it go by so fast.)

May: “So You Had a Third” (Maybe not my best post, but it seems appropriate to put it here since it gets to the heart of the whole three-kid theme we have going on.)

June: Mothering Three. Do You See Yourself Out There Anywhere? (A look at why I wish I had a few practical resources for solving parenting dilemmas when the parenting involves more than two children.)

July: Some Thoughts of Saturday (Why I will not turn Sarah down the next time she casually calls to ask if we can do something together with the kids.)

August: Three Kids. One Mommy. (A breakdown in few words of what it’s like, this life.)

September: A Long Post About Changes in Motherhood (I feel like maybe I shouldn’t include this one, because I’ve slipped both in the exercise portion and the mothering enlightenment, but I’m hopeful on both accounts that 2010 will bring me back to these achievements.)

October: The Days of No Me Before Motherhood (I can’t reread this post fully because it makes me feel uncomfortable. That’s how I know it’s true, though. The rawness and the truth in the discomforts of the role of motherhood.)

November: In The Moments After Bedtime (I like this post because it’s about quiet and remembering small things.)

December: (Be)longing (It seems strange to link to a post that I just wrote last night, and yet this is the crux of it all. The uncertainties that will not ever go away and that I know I will keep writing about.)

Thanks for reading. Here’s to 2010.

We started our blogs at about the same time… You and Sarah were the ones who most inspired me during the beginning stages. You guys were different than most others out there. Thanks for the last “year.” Thanks for your honesty. Keep writing!

I did not find you until later in the year, Jen and Sarah! I am, though – since it is too cold to run yet, going to go back and read your bests. I may even hijack the idea. That may give me something to do today besides laundry and taking down the tree.

It’s funny, I just assume everyone has been blogging forever. I just started in late April myself.

You guys seem to attract readers who are great/funny writers — I have enjoyed clicking over from comments to read a lot of great posts and new blogs to subscribe to.
