I’m cackling over here. I know, I know, it’s my family, so it’s a whole lot funnier to me (and Jen and Geege, I hope). But really? Let’s take a peek at some details. Like Jen’s vivacious skirt, worn with thick tights and sneakers. And how about GG? Those glasses are funkalicious. She’s one hot tamale. And those sandals? I think she wore that style for about 12 years–going through a few pairs until she finally moved on to…hmm. Mom? What did you move on to after those leather criss-cross thongy things?
I’m just little and cute, so we can leave my details out. Except for this: think I’d be just as scrumptious today in one of those jumpers? Um, and, no! I think we’ll stick with black capri pants for my summer wardrobe. Or, ripped jeans, anyone?
And how about the fact that we all are lined up against that smidgen of white picket fence like we’re posing for our wax statues, or worse, ready for the firing squad?
Don’t you just love old pictures of you and your fimly? I can’t get enough of them these days. Has turning 32 really brought on the nostalgia? Seems a wee bit early, no?

THAT was my FAVORITE skirt forEVER. And, your sandals? Is it my imagination or are your toes hanging off the ends.
Also, this is evidence that I always have been cold. You are wearing a too-short jumper dress and sandals with bare legs. Mom is wearing short sleeves and her thongy things with bare legs. Me: Long sleeves? Check. THICK tights? Check. Toasty warm (and stylish) sneakers? Check. Nice.
Yeah, we all know my toes were hanging off the end because they were YOUR hand-me-downs from six years prior. And mom probably already threw out the next biggest size or didn’t feel like rummaging through some boxes in the basement. I mean, it’s not like she would go out and buy me a NEW pair. Geez!
Still struggling through techno-terror-territory. Will do my best to play during Five for Ten! (Hoping things will be better by then.)
OKAY. I just messed up the linky thing. (Can you help, Sarah?)
I think it was supposed to be BigLittleWolf @ Daily Plate of Crazy – but beats me…
You’re all linked up.
And you know we all hope you surmount your techy woes. Good luck, BLW. Call on me when you need me.
Oh, I’m a sucker for little-girl dresses with shoulder ties. (And do I spy some eyelet??) Also, Jen’s looking very Jan Brady-like, what with the flower pattern and pigtails. Bodacious indeed.
.-= Stacia´s last blog ..It Takes a Pit Crew =-.
Jan Brady-esque…oh totally! Does that make me little Cindy WooHoo?
Just wait until those sandals come back in… because I think the glasses, that your mama’s wearing, ARE back in. Just as SUNGLASSES! It all comes around to embarrass us again!
.-= Alex´s last blog ..Nobody Says: When I Grow Up, I Want To Be Like My Younger Sister =-.
Welcome to Momalom. And didn’t you catch us on a funny kinda in-between kinda day. I agree with you on the coming-around-again front. Hmm, I wonder Jen would don that skirt again if we had it made in her size. Though perhaps it’d be a mini now? With some 4″ wedge sandals? Wait, that would make her like 10 feet tall. Maybe the sneakers would work better after all. I mean, we don’t want her feet to get cold, now do we?
Not to mention jumpers. Denim, cotton prints, jersey…you name it, they are back. (Not on my back. We’re online, so I suppose that doesn’t go without saying.)
.-= Leslie´s last blog ..Jumping to conclusions =-.
Phew, Leslie! So glad you clarified that. I was about to ask for a picture reference so I could sit here and snicker behind my computer.
Oh my goodness, my mom wore that exact outfit, down to the glasses and sandals for the entire decade of the 1980s. Now you’ve got me wanting to rifle through my old photos to find the doppelganger of this one.
.-= Kristen @ Motherese´s last blog ..Mama Needs a Brand New Bag (and, apparently, a brand new scarf) =-.
Now that’s something I’d like to see. That doppleganger photo! Let me know when you find it. The 1980s really were good for us all, weren’t they? Then AND now.
:)
I don’t think I have a picture of me from the early years when I’m not in coolottes – though we called them “coolocks” in Bunnlevel NC. I love the “firing squad” poses — and would’ve killed for Jen’s hair!
.-= Kelly´s last blog ..My Do-Over =-.
COOLOTTES. Oh dear, YES!
And Jen’s hair? Still long, thick and luscious.
And GREY. Boo.
My mom STILL wears those sandals :)
.-= Corinne´s last blog ..Haircuts, snow & happy {odds & ends} =-.
Well then I think your mom and OUR mom should go to the beach or something. :)
I remember slipping them on when I was a kid. The soles were shaped to her feet and the leather had become shiny and slippery and smooth. But eventually a strap broke or something and I SWEAR she got another pair. She is nowhere to be seen in the comments section yet, so I suppose I’ll have to get her over here to clarify some things for us. ;)
Sweet photo! Makes me miss the times I sported pigtails everyday.
Not sure my linky thing went through…very excited!
Hi Belinda. I linked you up. Not sure what went wrong! Aren’t those pigtails outrageous? I’m thinking of revisiting that hairstyle. I’ll be sure to take pics. Hee hee.
Ahem. Those sandals that hot GG is wearing? I do believe they are Bass brand sandals and my whole family (except for dad) wore them in the 80′s.
I love this photo!
.-= TheKitchenWitch´s last blog ..Spring Libations: Pear Sparkler =-.
YES they ARE Bass brand. And I always wanted a pair when I was a kid. Alas, I guess the sneakers were the best I could hope for. Maybe we could bring those babies BACK. Whaddya say, ladies?
For your information, Bass still sells them, as I have a pair…Check out their outlet stores…
BTW, those sandals rock! They are so comfortable, I wear them all summer long!
.-= Maria´s last blog ..Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! =-.
Oh Maria, I hope you don’t take offense at the sandals comment! As I just said above in response to Corinne, I totally remember slipping those sandals on and feeling how comfy they were.
And thanks for the Bass reminder. I remember going to the outlet stores with my mom and browsing the green boxes and breathing in the smell of leather. I had totally forgotten about our reliance on the Bass outlet for all those years!
I’m telling you. It’s a sign. We all need to start wearing them. Merrill’s be gone. Next time we meet GG at the outlets, I’m stopping at Bass first. Sarah, our kids are old enough now that they’re going to remember some of the things we do. So we may as well make a lasting impression. Think 30 years from now when they look at this photo and the one we take this summer, both wearing our Bass sandals and BIG sunglasses. History in the making.
First of all, you all are so stinking cute. I love old pictures.
But second — I *want* to participate, but I am such a commitment-phobe. Really, I’m so bad at following through with stuff like that. But know that I’ll come by and catch up like I always do, even if I don’t come every day.

Our high opinion of you will not waver regardless of your participation phobia. :) We’ll be glad to see you any ol’ day. Also? There WERE dropouts last time, and we’re still friends with all of them. So, if you wanna just give it a go … (or not).
I think my OLDER sister (age 46) still wears those exact criss-cross sandal things.
PS -I don’t think your simple linky thing doesn’t like me. I’ve tried twice and I’m still not there. Doesn’t bode well for Five for Ten. :(
.-= Erica@PinesLakeRedhead´s last blog ..Finally, the boy smiles… =-.
Whoops! A double negative! Pet peeve. Must have caffeine! Let me try again. The link thingy doesn’t like me!
.-= Erica@PinesLakeRedhead´s last blog ..Finally, the boy smiles… =-.
Erica,
Hmmm. Not sure what is up with your link for the Linky. I added it in just fine. Hmmm. If you experience problems during Five for Ten then I can switch to another kind. No problemo. And sorry about that!
I LOVE this! I love photos of your family – guaranteed to bring a smile to my face.
I like looking through my baby book, but not the photos when I got a bit older. My hideous pre-teen years collided with the ’80s and early ’90s to make for some pretty bad fashion. Yikes.

I love old pictures too!

I hate to admit this but I think I may have had those glasses at one point in time. I also still have those criss cross sandals, though I prefer my Birkenstocks. And, I am pretty sure I had a skirt just like Geege’s.
