What’s In My Bag

Miss Liz from But Then I Had Kids tagged me and Jen for the fun little meme that’s been going around. I was a bit ashamed to put up a picture of the old bag I had slung over my shoulder. It was a sad, sad thing. But Spring has sprung and my birthday is days away, so I treated myself to a cute new bag with matching wristlet.

Goodbye brown suede bag!

Our days are officially over. I will not pull you out of the closet for a “change of scenery.” You are no longer welcome in my world of refreshed fashion sense. I bid you adieu.

Hello Cute new bag!

Although some people I know (hee hee) would suggest ripping off your little fabric flower, I think it (and you) suit me just fine. You make me feel all kinds of girlie even though I’m not really so much. I’m working on it though. Thanks for your help!

And now…your contents!

  • Yes To Carrots body butter
  • Altoids
  • My trusty red notebook — Jen carries the same one these days, FYI
  • Burt’s Bees shea butter hand repair creme – the BEST stuff on the market for cracked hands, I swear!
  • Bed Head Mastermind hair junk — for when I remember, you know, that I want to look good and feel good about myself
  • Headphones for mah iPhone (iPhone not pictured here because it was clearly in my back pocket, it’s favorite home — heh heh, my phone likes my butt)
  • small Coach wallet for credit cards and piddly amounts of cash (large, red wallet not shown here because I, uh, forgot to add it and am too lazy to go back…but she’s been tossed out with the brown, suede ugliness, so you’re not missing much)
  • orange makeup bag with cheap drugstore makeup — for when I remember, you know, that I want to look good and feed good about myself (oh wait, I already said that)
  • Sunglasses – 1 pair for the days I wear my contacts & 1 pair for running/biking (regardless of wearing contacts or not — I’ll bike blind, better than sunspots for sure!)

Items not pictured cause I’m lazy:

  • 2 kinds of lip balm/lip glass/lip stuffs
  • receipts and bank slips galore that are the main source of clutter for my purse
  • pens
  • keys
  • watch
  • dental appt reminder card (shit, where did that go once I switched bags? shit)
  • sunglasses case with interchangeable lenses for the sporty geek in me
  • more pens
  • more receipts
  • CRUMBS — lots of crumbs. Because usually there are also snack bits and granola bar wrappers and…. you know, you’re a mom!

Here’s a page out of my red notebook…bloggy thoughts while driving, I’m sure:

And this is where my cute new bag hangs when I am home. This is the hub of our home and surely a topic for another post altogether.

Adorable bag! I also really like your home hub. We need one of those but don’t have a convenient wall to put it on.

We are extremely lucky to have this wall space in the kitchen that’s JUST big enough to house the HUB. It totally saves me from swimming in clutter. Now I can just wade in it instead.

Great spring bag (and Happy Early Birthday!)

I am coveting your hub. What a perfect spot for your new accessory.

That bag is super-cute! A lovely improvement, I think.

And that dry-erase calendar? You guys are way too busy. But you knew that.

Way too busy…um, yeah. It’s mostly just me running around town doing things with three kids while my husband is out working 24/7. No, I’m not bitter. No, not at all. And no, he didn’t just call to tell me he won’t be able to make it to our family outing tonight. Nope. He’d never do such a thing!

Sigh.

I do LOOK pretty organized, don’t I? Looks are deceiving but I try. Oh how I try. My favorite aspect of the entire thing is the charging station. It’s THE BEST.

I love that bag! And I’m officially jealous of your organization … though I must know if you cleaned it up for us.

Also, I know there are 515 million Kellys in the world … but could *I* be the one whose name is written in such a cool script?

Kelly… :)
No, I did not clean it up for you.
And…..YES, it IS you of whom I wrote on that little notepad. Awhile ago, probably during Five for Ten, you wrote a comment about how the comments were a post unto themselves. Or something like that. I loved it. I meant to write an entire post based off of your comment. Because what you did is confirm for me the fact that this is a community — and that we are all quite genuinely connected not only to our own words, but to the words of each other.

I’ll have to rummage around and see if I can find that comment you wrote again.

I’M FAMOUS!!!!!

I remember that comment. I think it was “The comments are an experience unto themselves” or “… are a community unto themselves” or something like that. And I meant it.

You know there should be a Momalom forum or blogfrog or convention or something. Cause us girls like to TALK.

So, aren’t you gonna tell us where you got that awesomely cute bag? I just adore it!

We have part of that wall system too – I could really use the calendar part but no more room for it… :(

Elaine, WELCOME!
I got the bag on etsy.com. The seller’s store name is atouchofstardust. Super Cute Stuff!!!

And that wall system is the best. I love it. Was totally worth every overpriced cent!

I love the hub!! That’s all sorts of fabulous.
And the bag… I really like it, and I’m not all that into flowery handbags, but that’s really cute.

Thanks, Corinne. This bag is officially my first girlie-looking bag (purchase?) ever. I’m not into flowery either. I usually can’t pull it off. I just don’t LOOK flowery. I’m one of those people who always looks mad even though I SO totally am not. My mom’s the same way. And Jen? Hmm. Maybe. But not so much. ANYWAY, the bag is working. And maybe even cheering up my face a little? One can hope.

This bag? Awesome. Not the usual Sarah, but I LIKE it. It’s a statement of happiness, of optimism, of experimentation.
(And? I’m totally jealous.)

Great bag!

I laughed about the crumbs, because I can so relate. Where do they come from?? My work bag is full of them – I need to run it through the washer this weekend. Or just buy a new one, for goodness sake.

I KNOW! The crumbs just gross me out. And then there’s the used tissues. Let’s not even go there. I think it’s a SUPER FANTASTIC idea to get a washable bag. That’s one of the reasons I went with this one. And the fact that it’s totally cute, of course.

Love the new bag! I can’t justify picking up a new one just yet… though I’d kind of (really really really really) like to… I’ll just enjoy yours from here instead. :)

Cute bag! I’m always so excited to “start” a new bag. The ceremonial moving over of the items, discarding some, finding others. I’m easily pleased I guess.

Etsy. I got it on etsy. The store name is atouchofstardust. Totally cute stuff. I asked her to make the wristlet to match and that little cutie is my most favorite purchase in the last year. It totally beats having giant amounts of clutter in your purse, and having to lug the whole purse into the store for a quick errand. Plus, I never just pull out my credit card and run in and then misplace it in my back pocket for three weeks. TOTALLY GREAT!

I do the same damn thing. Spent 45 minutes “retracing my steps” when I couldn’t find my debit card today. It was in the back pocket of the jeans hanging in my closet. D’oh!

I do love the new bag, especially the springy-retro-deliciousness of the colors. I’m afraid if I ever hung my bag on your fantastic Hub, the sheer weight of the crumbs would pull it right off the wall!

Well, that’s a very happy bag, Sarah. And I cannot believe that organization center. There are three boys living there, right? And the board looks that good? My “organization center” would have to be the cave-like pit we call a laundry room, on the way from the garage to the house. It’s filled with piled up shoes, coats on top of coats, the countertop with so many tangled up wires for our phones and other gadgetry that I have to hunt for the right wire to plug my phone in.

Thanks for the peek in your bag. I’m still trying to get up my nerve (and have someone take some pics) to do this!

Okay. I clearly need to post some photos of all the other treacherous areas of our house. Piles, you say? And wires, you say? Our house is swimming in packages from FedEx and UPS because of my husband’s business. Parts and computers fill the office and trickle out to the rest of the house. There are tools in every room. A screwdriver on most any shelf ANYWHERE. So this one little spot on my wall? It is loved. And still, it is messy. But I’m so happy it doesn’t appear as such.

And yes, I would LOVE to see what is in your bag. It’s kind of a voyeurism thing, isn’t it? But it tells us so much about people!

Love the bag. Love the hub. The latter is like a page out of the Pottery Barn catalog.

I covet.

I know you said that the hub is not necessarily representative of the rest of your home, but the fact that you have at least one major area under control means you must be doing something right!
