A warm Momalom welcome to Lissie, who submitted the following love letter to this year’s Love It Up. I happen to know that Lissie has a kale-themed bumper sticker on her car. How fitting that she channeled that love into poetry, too.
KALE
Forever catch my eye, salutary buy
your form endues
your hue renews
through the years
your versatility endears.
Righteous and humble
steam, blend, frozen raw and crumble
nourish, detoxify, protect me through the hours
with chlorophylly-phytonutrinoids-vitamineral superpowers
Dream ponder on a bed of kale:
Can a brassica be a soul-mate?
You appeal to both sides of my brain.
In my heart, my veins, in my soul
Invincible, growing greener inside-out,
upside, when I am down you are there.
Forever catch my eye,
good buy
– Lissie
So, tell us, how do you feel about kale?

I’ve always liked kale enough, but usually mixed with collard greens. Sometime last year someone introduced me to kale chips and lemme tell ya, the love I have for kale has reached new heights. I still might not choose it as a vegetable by itself, but as a chip…it’s perfect. If only I could figure out how not to burn them when trying to make them at home.
So I haven’t mastered kale yet. Clearly, when the season is upon us and we are collecting our farm share across the street from your house each week, I know where to come to find a recipe.
