A day of Yes

Yes I’ll make cinnamon-chip muffins

Yes we have Daddy juice

Yes you can wear shorts today

Yes there are clean socks in the laundry basket in my room

Yes you have PE today (so wear your sneakers, too)

Yes I’ll pack yogurt in your lunch

Yes I’ll pack a granola bar in your snack

Yes it’s my turn to drive you to school today

Yes you have to brush your teeth

Yes I’m picking you up from school, too

Yes your friend M can come over to play

Yes I’ll make popcorn

Yes you can jump on the (neighbor’s) trampoline

Yes you can have (another) snack

Yes I’ll read you a book

Yes we can have pizza for dinner

Yes you can have a popsicle

Yes, outside

Yes you can take a shower in the morning (instead of a bath tonight)

Yes you can wear short pajamas

Yes you have to brush your teeth

Yes it’s my turn to read tonight

Yes you can look at extra books

Yes I’ll check on you in six minutes

Yes. I love you. My first born. Yes.

So, if you’re not already enjoying the advanced copy you were so forward-thinking to order, hop on over to your local bookstore now or visit Aidan’s book page for a look-see. Take a break from Five for Ten and cozy up with Aidan’s fine work. I’m halfway through the book, and I can’t wait to finish!

We will send a copy of Life After Yes to our favorite Yes post in the linky. So link up and, as always, we’ll get busy reading.

You have inspired me to try out a yes day with my crew…although I am afraid, very afraid!

Thanks for the reminder to loosen up, just a bit!

I love your “yes” poem! I wrote today about how we need to say yes as often as we can. Looks like you’re doing a great job!

I love embracing yes. I am going to try the same experiment at home and see how it makes a difference. My hopes are that it will be liberating.

Thanks so much for Five for Ten. I am so inspired and grateful for the challenge.

A perfect day of yes, thanks for sharing it, Jen. I have, since my Aidan was ever so small tried hard to avoid no. To use no for serious things like NO don’t stick that knife in the electrical outlet, or NO don’t use drugs. I try stick to encouraging my kids to make YES a priority. Within reason of course.

BUT Oh no!! The pressure!!! I really want that book but I am sure stuck on my YES post. Hmmmm. Does linking to Aidan’s blog count as a post? One more day. I can do it. maybe….

OH you’ve done it again. Inspired us all to write, to think… and now to be much much better moms.

Think of how many kids in the houses of these blogging moms heard yes today instead of No.

Thanks.

I’ve always tried hard not to focus on “no.” It’s harder as they get older, but I loved this topic and reading other blogger’s ideas and experiences with thinking “yes!”

It is so easy to get in the habit of saying no and so wonderful to break the habit and embrace yes!

As the dust settles around this final day of five-for-ten I wanted to circle back to your Yes I zoomed past yesterday morning in the dash to work, thinking of Aiden, of all our yessing and posting.

Your poem reminds me how much moms like you and Sarah say yes, create yes, embody yes. As I strive to continue learning and growing, this experience has meant so much to me: Yes you too can participate, yes you can risk, yes you can be included as a male (albeit with a hyper-developed feminine side of which I am most proud), yes you can speak, and yes you can listen. Yes you can think together with others, yes you can feel together with others. Yes other people do encourage and not just compete. Yes we love all our children, but we also love each other… and the more we get to know each other the more love comes welling up for each other—and the group.

Thanks for all the incredible yes energy you brought to this virtual Woodstock of the soul.

Namaste

This comment is so perfect, you are saying so much of what I have felt throughout this experience! Tears came to my eyes as I read this, Bruce.

“Woodstock of the soul”. My soul is so very much more at peace knowing that I have so very many amazing women (and men!) that “get me”.

thank you all and thank you Bruce for your beautiful words. You say it so much better than I ever could.

I’m sorry but my eyes kept going back to that daddy juice line.

Intriguing.

Well now I know what to get my husband for dinner tonight. Pizza. We’ll splurg. $10 anything goes at Pizza Hut.

I am hopping over to my blog right now to write up a Yes post – :).
Thanks!
