Jen

I’m the older sister. My children are 18 months, 4-and-a-half, and 6. My story is not as dramatic as Sarah’s. I’m home part time with my family, trying to keep tabs on all of the needs of five people living their very individual lives under a shared roof. And I work part time as a writer/editor at an academic publication.

I have what I want. A strong relationship with a loving, sympathetic partner. Three healthy children I adore. A job that satisfies the necessities of what it is to be a working mom.

I long for more. More time with my sweetie. More time to work on my own writing. More patience with myself and my children. More opportunities for us all.

I have learned that attempting to find a balance every day more often leads to insanity than success. But I’m trying to enjoy the sometimes never-ending days that motherhood demands and marvel at the milestones my kids continue to meet. And I’m often struggling to reconcile the fact that they’re growing up too fast. I talk about all of this with my sister Sarah about a dozen times every day.

You can find 101 more things about me here.

My sister and I are also six years apart, and I’m the oldest so I completely understand the type of relationship the two of you have had. I realize that six years may not be much, but my sister and I really belonged to different “generations”. We didn’t play with the same toys, we couldn’t share friends and outings, we were just too far apart. Even today, we still are, although we both try not to be.

Today, I have two little boys, 19 months apart. Mother nature was kind enough to let me give birth to two wonderful children so close in age, even though I was already 36 and then almost 38. I really hope that my kids grow up to become great friends, because sibling relationships are quite precious.

I’ll add you to my blog roll because I really like your site and what you’re doing.
